Run4Wine!
Due to my taste buds affection towards wine, I just HAD to run this race.
Due to Mr. Speedy’s affection towards me, he just HAD to run this race.
(Technically, he was slightly unaware of this race and of the fact that I signed us up with his credit card… but whatever. Sometimes these things happen.)
The 4 mile race took place on a golf course and WAS PRETTY FLIPPIN’ AWESOME because post-race, you got:
- Unlimited wine-tasting (there were about 40 bottles… so yeah… AMAZING)
- BBQ buffet dinner (I had seconds…. oops)
- Chocolate dipped marshmallows and pretzels!
- 1 free drink from the bar
- Music played by a band with a man that looked like Chris Farley with long locks
- Did I mention THE WINE?
The BBQ food was quite yummy and being an avid eater, I enjoyed it:
Now, for the prizes.
Due to the fact that boyfriend is like a Kenyan but not Kenyan and has the lungs of a killer whale, he won this race quite comfortably running easy 5:20 pace throughout it.
I came in 9th overall (there was about 900 total) and 2nd female (there was a super fast women ahead of me… give me 10 more years of training, I’ll get there). I ran a 7:04 pace which is on the slower side for such a short race BUT it was a bumpy hilly course and filled with sand traps which are not good on the ankles.
The benefit of having my companion be a race winner, is that whatever he wins… generally, he shares with me.
And by golly, this grand prize is the BEST COUPLE-DATE PRIZE EVER.
Please read below:
He also won a bottle of wine (the far right one… the other two we bought):
That is pretty awesome.
I feel like throughout this post I have over-used the words awesome and sweet and flippin’….
But I can’t help it.
I’m excited for my fancy car dinner date with this man:
I hope he is excited to take me out…
Since I look just as good as him… especially my frazzled hair:
What is the best race you have ever done??? This was a lot of fun due to the post-race party and it was a perfect reminder of how fun running is at the end of my marathon training (marathon is next weekend! eeeeeeeek!)

OH MY GOD Whyyy are you two so freaking perfect!?!?!?! I am so obsessed with you guys..is that normal?! Of course you are dating the badass that won..and OF COURSE you got second (if I would have been there I would have ensured you got 1st, damn that speedy woman) You two are seriously meant for each other and I gusshh over your adventures together!!
AWESOME race winnings, seriously..AWESOME! I feel like I am going to be overusing the word awesome throughout this comment. Congrats to you both yayaya you Kenyan speed demons!!
My most awesomest race has to be Disneyland..for obvious reasons. Although the post race loot sucked, the overall race was whoaaa awesome! Plus I am 12 and love Dland!
YAY blog soul mates!
Dland is quite amazing… and I can totally see you having your wedding there. Or in a forest, with your wine box garden surrounding everyone.
This race was amazinggggggg, if we lived in the same area we would have competed together and then domincated the wine like champs.
I’m rooting for you in the marathon!
Thank you!!! I shall need it… espcially around mile 18-the end!
Congratulations!
I think they should server the wine before the race. Sure, race times would go up, but you’d all be having too much fun to notice!
Good luck in the marathon!
Ohhhhh I love this idea. Pre-drinking, run, post-drinking. Organize this race and I’ll be there with my drinking spandex pants on!
Congrats on your times! My husband and I also ran the race saw your boyfriend running ahead of the pack and was shocked at his speed. You both killed it! I thought that they did a really awesome job on this race, and especially for being the first time and the entrance fee. I hope that they do it again next year too! Glad to have found your blog (just did a Race4Wine search to see if anyone had pics) as I love finding other Michigan bloggers.
Ahhhh it always is SO nice to meet another fellow runner and blogger! it is like finding a unicorn. Thank you so much and I’ll be sure to check out your blog! And i hope they keep doing this race…. seriously, what a blast!!!!
You had me until I read SWEET wine….
I do not understand the one free bevvy after 40 wine tastings, I would have asked for a driver to take me home after and wave around the fancy car slip like a drunk entitled fool. Just saying. Nice race! You are quite the speedy one too!
